The Geo-Installation

Overview

I partnered with 3 other students as a visual designer in a 4 month interaction design course and collaborated with a local non-Profit organization to research their user experience needs.

From our research we created this digital prototype of the work which is an interaction design piece that addressed the organization need for artistic expression and community engagement within the space

This geo-installation is an art installation that allows people coming into the space to respond to the prompt on the white board and write down their thoughts on a triangular magnet, and place them on the metal structure, as well as comment on others.

Context

Each week we had to conduct research in person with the organization and received feedback that we then incorporated into user experience maps, personas, and graphic design mockups. We also conducted weekly meetings with the organization where we discussed our findings and collaborated to come up with a more fitting solutions.

Research

From our research we collected different insights through interviews with the staff and members at the organization and accumulated this information into the two different target audiences for our project.

User Journey Map

We used our interview findings and came up with a user journey map to highlight the most important things that needed to be implemented into the space, which was then used to identify our user design goals.

Iterations

We iterated from our design goals by identifying the constraints and opportunities from our research, where we came up with several different solutions, that addressed these topics.

We then got feedback through conducting an online workshop until we narrowed it down to the concept of an interactive installation that was geared to engage visitors and employees more within the space.

Experience Map

We created this map to plan out the experience of the user by identifying the key interaction points that we found from our research and mapped out the best way in which how each person would flow through the piece.

Challenges

Some challenges faced were being able to narrow down all this research into one tangible issue that we could design to focus in on one interaction.

How we overcame this was through team ideation workshops and discussions to keep narrowing down our idea until we found the best one.
